Real Women, Real Hair: Louise Fudge in Conversation With Dianne Marshall
Louise Fudge Talks Hair, Confidence & Extensions
There are some conversations about women’s hair that feel long overdue.
Salon owner and colour specialist Louise Fudge, of Louise Fudge Colour Specialists in Heswall, recently joined Dianne Marshall for one of Dianne’s Real Women interviews – a very honest conversation about hair, confidence and the changes women can experience throughout life.
And for Louise, this is something she knows about personally.
Hair has always been a huge part of Louise’s life. From her early days as a popstar to becoming an accomplished hair colour specialist and opening her own salon in Heswall, she has always understood just how much our hair can be tied to how we feel about ourselves.
But life threw Louise what she describes as the big “CMD” – cancer, menopause and divorce.
During a particularly challenging period, Louise found that her hair had changed too. It wasn't what it had once been, and she found herself losing confidence in her appearance – something that was especially difficult when hair is such an important part of both your personal and professional life.
At one point, Louise even questioned whether she wanted to continue with her career.
Louise has worked closely with Dianne Marshall Hair Extensions, and after having her own Dianne Marshall extensions fitted, something changed.
It wasn't simply about having longer or fuller hair. Louise said she felt like herself again. Having hair that she felt confident with helped give her back a sense of herself at a time when so much else had changed.
And because Louise works with women and their hair every day, she has seen first-hand that this feeling isn't unique. Sometimes, a change to your hair can be about far more than how it looks in the mirror.
It can be about confidence. Feeling feminine. Feeling like you again.
“Anyone can wear hair extensions” That was one of the messages behind Louise's conversation with Dianne.
Hair extensions haven't always been something women felt comfortable talking about. There can be a perception that they're only for adding length, or that they're something reserved for a particular age or type of woman. But that's changing.
As more women openly share their experiences of menopause, illness, changing hair and loss of confidence, conversations around hair extensions are becoming much more honest and inclusive. As Dianne puts it, sometimes we all need “a little help to help you through the curve ball years.” And there's absolutely no shame in that.
Louise's Bespoke Dianne Marshall Extensions
For the interview, Louise is wearing bespoke Russian hand-tied wefts from Dianne Marshall Hair Extensions. The European and Russian wefts are ordered, coloured and cut specifically for each individual client, allowing the extensions to be carefully matched and tailored to the person's own hair. Louise's closest colour match is shade 3/7A – a dark brown blended with a light ash brown.
This is where Louise's own expertise as a hair colour specialist is particularly important. Beautiful extensions aren't just about the application – colour, tone, placement and blending all play a part in creating a natural-looking result.
What makes Louise's story particularly powerful is that she isn't simply a salon owner recommending hair extensions. She's a woman who has experienced the difference they made for her personally.
And perhaps that's why conversations like this matter. For years, women have often kept quiet about changes to their hair, whether caused by ageing, menopause, illness, stress or simply life. But talking openly about these experiences can help other women realise they're not alone – and that there are options available if they don't feel comfortable with the hair they've been left with.
Hair doesn't define us. But there's no denying how good it can feel when you look in the mirror and recognise yourself again.
